A month after the Yamaha demo days, we paid a visit to the Kawasaki event.
My daughter tried out the Ninja 400 (“smooth, not very exciting though”)
I tried out the Z650 (“Amazingly capable for its size, had no trouble hauling my sizable frame up to highway speeds. It was a mind reading bike, moved by thought alone. Did everything I asked of it without complaining or even straining.)
Harley Girl had been excited to try out the KLR 650, which, I might add, she was able to take flat footed. I don’t know many people who can say that. She came away unimpressed and disappointed - had hoped for more, felt it was buzzy and underpowered.
For my second ride I tried the Versys 1000, which was horrible in my opinion from the moment I let out the clutch. All the power is way up high on the tachometer, and admittedly I’m very much accustomed to accessible power much lower in the tachometer. The wind somehow buffeted my helmet a lot. I never felt like I found the sweet spot on this bike.
