Shamu 2, the revenge of the whale

There sure is a lot of hatred in the Moto Press for Honda's VFR1200 -- dubbed "Shamu". Reading "Hell For Leather's" reviews makes me worry about the future of Honda...if this bike is any example of what we can expect from them.

Now, there are rumors of "Shamu 2 -- the sequel" -- a V4 adventure bike. Honda apparently is taking aim at the BMW's GS.

  1. That site ranks up there with consumer reports in my book. The VFR1200 has gotten decent reviews in most of the press for good reason. It is a quality bike. But people want to pigeon hole it into either a sport bike or a sport tourer. But it doesn't neatly fit into a category. It is a motorcycle! Lots of people will be thrilled with it. You know what, Triumph and BMW both have a few bikes that don't quite fit in a defined category. They are doing quite well. I wouldn't worry too much about the what "Heck for Vinyl" has to say. ;-)

  2. I wouldn't equate HFL, or "Heck For Vinyl" as you cleverly put it, with Consumer Reports. HFL doesn't pretend to be scientific fact; they claim only to be opinion. I may not agree, but they never claimed to be fact, only claimed to be opinion.

It's Consumer Report's unethical and unscientific reporting -- reporting misleading statistics as though they are fact -- which sets them apart, and makes them heck-bound, in my opinion.

  3. True. I guess that is why I seldom look at HFL, I find their opinions to be not mine. ;-)

  4. I am a little worried about the near future for Honda and sport touring since the ST1300 is going away. A VFR with bags wouldn't cut it for me.

  5. Is the ST1300 going away?!? The local dealer tells me it isn't. I guess they know what Mother Honda has told them, and no more ... or they're not allowed to say.

The patent diagrams for the new VF1200ST show that it is different than the VFR1200. More different than just a VFR with hard bags.
