I've got two old helmets that have fulfilled their purpose. They've struck the ground, protecting their contents, and need to be disposed of . (This is old news that I've already reported here, not some new event.)
Do I just chuck 'em in the trash, or is there some recycling place/process for old helmets? Or, remove the liners/pads/components in case someone else needs a replacement part?
If they're like mine, I use my old ones for bookends on my shelves in the bonus room. Some of my wild graphics on the helmets look pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteWait until Earth Day. Douse them with gasoline and light them on fire.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet you see Green flames.
Check with your local MSF facility. Our program here in Cincinnati saws them in half for 'show and tell' during class.
ReplyDeleteThanks, that's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'd like my accidents and the aftermath of my accidents ton be turned into something that can help others... makes the pain worth while. Stories, reminders, and now, possibly a donation to MSF.
Ask your local volunteer fire dept. or ambulance corp. if they're interested in using them for training purposes for treating crash victims.
ReplyDeleteHell if you want to be green why not turn them upside down and plant flowers in them? Maybe put some of your wife's favorite flowers in them for Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThe USAF NCO club used to convert old flight helmets into lamps over the bar. Just drill a hole in the top.
ReplyDeleteI add my old helmets to the recycling box. I rip out the insides and seperate...so far they've always taken them.
ReplyDeleteI still think the lamp-shade idea is cool - with this twist - put the bulbs in them and use them to line the sides of the driveway - get some coloured tints for the visors... and you got patio lanterns
ReplyDeleteOn poles, like a field of disembodied heads...
ReplyDeleteSome great ideas amidst all the smart remarks. ;-)
