ST1300: Helmet Hook?

ST1300 owners, where are you putting your helmets when you park the bike?

I'm currently stuffing mine in one of the side cases, but I don't really like that solution.  It means one side case must remain basically empty when travelling, so it can hold the helmet when I stop.  The stock helmet hooks under the seat are cumbersome and/or useless.  Occasionally I'll hang it on the right rider foot peg by the chin, but that's pretty vulnerable to being knocked off.

  1. I'm most of the time to concerned about theft and rain to leave my helmet hanging on the bike, but if I do, I hang it on the right side mirror or handle bar.

  2. If I'm just stopped somewhere to hang out, like a parking lot where I'll be near the bike, I set the helmet on the slightly dished seat of my Russell Day- Long saddle. If I'm going inside somewhere, I either carry it along, lock it in a side case or the Givi trunk, or leave out on the bike and park where I can shoot at it.

  3. When I lived near Lake Tahoe, I used to ride a lot with my insurance agent, a BMW fan that didn't like the helmet hook on his Beemer; he also developed the habit of hanging it on the right rider footpeg by the chinbar.

Worked pretty well, at least until the time we were sitting in the Bar of America in Truckee and happened to glance out the window, Just in time to see a large male dog lifting his leg and relieving himself into said brain bucket. FWIW, at least the fact that the helmet was watertight was verified.

  4. Helmet Guardian.

    Info here

It attaches to the rear of your bike using new license plate mounting bolts. License plate goes on top.

I've had one on almost every bike I've had. Holds 2 helmets and works great. Also, if I'm somewhere where I need to secure my Stich, I pass a cable through the arm/leg and lock it to the 2nd lock. Never had a problem.

  5. Theree are a few types of sportbike riders -- a sporty posseur -- who conspiciously carries his graphically adorned helmet with him into the bar, or the place of work. For the purpose of currying favor and gaining the attetion of the ladies.

I don't subscribe to this point of view, hanging around with jokers as I do, I feel my helmet is better left to it own devices on the bike, than in a bar or work office environment where shenanigans may happen.

Depends on whether the hoodlums and rascals are more prevalent inside the office, or out in the parking lot.

  6. Take yourself down to the local police department and ask them for your complimentary Project Child Safe gun lock. This free gunlock is a cable lock.

Then lock/hang your helmet to the bike, not only can it not fall, it can't be stolen.

Check here for participating police departments:

  7. OK all knowin' ST'er. If you lift your seat you will see a sideways U bent into a hook.

Sure looks like a Helmet Hook to me. I'm just sayin!

  8. Thanks -- with after-market seat, it's a bit of a production. Seat comes apart in two pieces, then put back together to reinstall. The seat hook could work but it's kind of a pain.

    I'm hardly an all-knowing ST'er. I haven't put 1000 miles on the bike yet. ;-)
